Kendrick (Brian) Petty died with loved ones by his side on Dec. 5, 2019. He is survived by his wife Diana Peck who he lived with in their Fort Bragg home. Born in Oakland on May 10, 1941, to Muriel and Claude Petty, Brian had a turbulent childhood, losing his mother at a young age. He was raised and supported lovingly by Step mom Betty Petty and Aunt Mary Bartlett. In the late 60s, he moved from the Bay Area to the small town of Elk on the North Coast of California. He started a roadside cafe with Shanti and her son Mark, and soon were joined by daughter Lori and son Matt. He also had many other family members in the Bay Area including brother Stephen and sisters Allison and Karen. He was know as an artist, environmentalist, poet, chef, master gardener, outdoorsman, wild dancer and community activist.
